Bra size calculation might seem like a hassle. But once you find your perfect bra size, it'll help you purchase and wear the better fit.

Most women in India wear the wrong bra size as they do not know how to measure it correctly. But gone are the days when we went to the local lingerie store, and the only bra size calculator was the shopkeeper's eyes. We might have to apply a little maths and require an inch of tape, but thankfully, we can calculate our bra size at home and shop online without any awkwardness.

Why Is It Important To Wear The Right Bra Size?

Wearing the right bra size can give you a confident look by defining your posture and providing support. Women often tend to wear ill-fitted bras because of wrong measurements.

How To Measure Bra Size Using Bra Size Calculator?

Before you start, here are the things you'll need to measure your bra size - measuring tape (inches/centimetres), a mirror, a non-padded bra, and a bra size chart (mentioned below).

You can measure your bra size in two easy steps.

STEP 1: Measure Band Size (Underbust)

- Ensure that the tape you use to measure your bra size is snug.

- Wrap the tape around your underbust (the area right under your breasts).

- Measure the band size and write it down somewhere. (We'll have to use it later for calculation)

- Round off the number obtained to the nearest whole number. If it's an even number, add 4. If it's an odd number, add 5.

- For instance, if your underbust is 26 inches, add 4 to it. Then, 26 + 4 = 30 is your band size!

STEP 2: Measure Bust Size (Overbust)

- Wrap the measuring tape around your overbust (the fullest part of your breast).

- Ensure the tape is not too tight or loose and has no falls or twists.

- Round off the number to the nearest whole number.

- It's time for the final maths. Subtract the underbust size calculated earlier from the overbust size.

- The remaining value is your cup size. Refer to the bra size chart to know what is your cup size.

- For instance, your overbust size is 33, and your underbust calculated size is 30. Then, 33 - 30 = 3. The value 3 corresponds to the C cup size. Bravo! Your bra size is 30C.

Your bra size is the size of the calculated band size and your cup size, which you obtain after subtracting the underbust from the overbust.

Want To Know If Your Bra Fits Perfectly? Here Are Three Signs To Look For

1. The cups should sit comfortably on the breasts.

You're wearing the wrong bra if

- your breasts are spilling out of the cup from the side or the top. It means your bra cups are too small for your breasts.

- there's space between the cup and your breasts, or the cup fabric is wrinkling in place.

2. The band forms a straight line around your body

You're wearing the wrong bra if

- the bra band is arching at the back. It means your bra band is too loose. You can either try a tighter hook or a smaller band size.

- the band is digging into your skin and leaving redness or marks. It means the band of your bra is too tight. You can try the bra on a looser hook or a bigger band.

3. The straps sit snugly on the shoulder

You're wearing the wrong bra if

- the bra straps keep falling off.

- the bra straps are too tight and keep leaving marks.

What To Know More About Bra Sizes? Check Out The FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions about measuring bra size.

How often should I check my bra size?

Our bodies are unpredictable. It's best to check bra size every three to six months.

Why should women wear a bra?

Wearing a bra is a choice. However, wearing a bra of the correct size supports the breasts and shoulders. It improves the shape and silhouette of your body and prevents your breasts from sagging. Wearing a bra can also increase your confidence and keep you comfortable and pain-free.

Which is the best bra to wear?

A medium-padded, non-wired, full-coverage t-shirt bra is ideal for women. Despite your body shape, it gives you a seamless and sharp look daily.

What does ABCD in bra sizes stand for?

The letters are the cup size in the bra size. A bra size contains two parts - band size and cup size. While the band size is numbers - 32, 34, 36, and 38, the cup sizes are in letters, like A, B, C, and D, and go to H.

What are sister sizes?

Every woman has a unique body. Sometimes, you might find that even after measuring your bra size correctly, the bra does not fit. It might have some or the other problem.

Sister sizes are alternate bra sizes, where the cup volume stays the same, even though the band and cup size change. For instance, if your bra size is 32C, there's a chance that 34B would fit you perfectly.

How do I know I'm wearing a bra of the wrong size?

Here are some signs to look for to check if you're wearing the wrong bra:

- You'll feel discomfort in the breast tissues.

- Your straps might be digging into your shoulders or might keep falling off.

- You have pain in your back and neck.
